Naples, Italy

My first trip to Naples was to meet some friends who share their time between Italy and Los Angeles. My BFF Lisa and I were doing some traveling through Germany and headed to Venice, Italy for the closing weekend of Biennale––the major contemporary art exhibit that happens ever two years. From there we were invited by our friends for a quick two day trip to Naples.

We weren’t there for long but I remember noting at how big the city was and how much trash was dumped right on the streets.

Two years later, we were both invited to do a five week art and cooking residency in Naples. The state of the city had changed and changed for the better. It was cleaner and the energy seemed lighter, people appeared happier and the sun was always shinning, warming the cobble stone streets.

We worked during the day and enjoyed eating our way around the city at night. We day tripped to islands off the coast and took weekends in Sorrento and other near by places. Living in Naples those five weeks was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
